Canon production was badly hit by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami in March, by rolling blackouts afterwards, and difficulties procuring raw materials, parts, and other supplies. Potential power shortages caused by serious damage at the nuclear power plant still remain a risk for the company. However, Canon is forecasting production should return to normal by the end of June. In anticipation of this, Canon has announced new dates for a number of new EF lenses announced at the end of last year:
- EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM – late August 2011
- EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM – late August 2011
- EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM – late July 2011
- EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM – within 2011
- EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM – within 2011
